Freda Miklin | Greenwood Village

I passed the C.P.A. Examination just before graduating from the University of Colorado. I began my professional career with Arthur Andersen & Co., a Big 8 accounting firm, in its Chicago office. Living there, I discovered the difference one could make in people’s lives by becoming involved in city government. I soon changed my career focus and accepted a position in the City of Chicago Department of Finance. I stayed there for five years, leaving as Deputy Director of Revenue, to accept an offer to fill a newly created position with the City and County of Denver as its first ever Director of Tax Compliance. I remained in that position until I became a full-time mother. With five children, I switched my focus to volunteering in the public schools and Greenwood Village city government. I was appointed to the Greenwood Village Board of Adjustments and Appeals in 1996 by Mike DeChadenedes and Jim Underhill. I became its Chair in 2001 and remained in that position until I left due to term limits in 2006. In 2011, I was appointed to the Village’s Redistricting Commission and chosen as Chair by my fellow commissioners. I was appointed to the GV Planning & Zoning Commission by Jerry Presley and Denise Rose in January, 2013, and served there until being elected to the City Council in November, 2015.  I also serve on the Arapahoe County Citizens Review Panel, appointed by the Arapahoe County Commissioners in 2014. That Panel is called into service when there is a difficult situation involving the Arapahoe County Department of Human Services, requiring an outside group of objective citizens to assist in resolving an issue with a Human Services client or family.
